Dear Pastor, Indian Lakes Baptist Church:

The other day I was driving by your church and saw this sign:

I just had to comment on it because of my new project: Advising churches as to what their sign actually says. (Or at least how I interpret them.)

First off, I did notice that the word “and” in your sign is mixed up. Does this show that religious thinking is also mixed up? Or was it just a joke to see if people were paying attention?

Secondly, I do believe there are many, many people who have set minds and would have difficulty changing them. I call these people theists. Most atheists (which I am in a subset of atheists – a LaVeyan/Modern Satanist – where more info can be found at the link at the top of this letter explains them a little bit) are more than willing to believe in a god if they can be proven to exist. How many theists, Christians included, can be said to have the same kind of open-mindedness? Meaning, if it could not be proven that the Christian god exists, would be willing to accept atheism?

Anyway, just wanted you to know what your sign says to me. And maybe it'll let you know your sign is messed up. Or somebody was paying attention.

Hello. I just wanted to write to you and tell you I noticed your sign out a week or so ago:

I just wanted to say, I fully agree with what it says. If you feel that god is good, then life is good.

Let's take a look at some of the things god did:

God Did/Allowed:	Life Has:
Killed 2,391,421+ people (probably closer to 33 million – see http://ping.fm/F6NSW)	Serial killers, genocidal maniacs, etc.
Commanded the rape of several women (See http://ping.fm/zUJ4m)	Rapists
Killing children/babies (See Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137:9)	Child murderers
Sexual slavery (See Exodus 21:1-11)	Sexual slavery is still around
Child abuse (See Judges 11:29-40, Deuteronomy 21:18, and Isaiah 13:16)	Child abusers abound

So yes, if we understand that the word “good” applies to this mythical being, then yes, the evil abounding in this world would also be “good.”

It's problems like that that led me to my current religion: LaVeyan Satanism.

Anyway, keep up the “good” work!
